Big happenings in the store!!
Today marks the kick off of the Stonehenge Block Party Challenge. Come on in and purchase our block and combine it with 11 other stores' blocks to make a quilt. When the quilt has been completed, bring it into Pinheads for a chance to win a 9-day trip to England to see Stonehenge. Participants in the challenge have until September 30 to acquire blocks and until November 30 to turn in their quilts. Participating stores are located on Northcott's website -- there are 18 in Alberta, but stores can sell their blocks through on-line sales!
In addition, there is a Stonehenge Quilt Panel Challenge. Incorporate the Solstice Panel into a quilt, and also get a chance to win a fabulous prize! Go for it -- we can't wait to see your creations! Here is a look at our block, all from the Stonehenge Solstice Collection.
From March 15 to 31, Pinheads is offering 42" fabric at the following sale prices:
Buy 1-3 meters, get 15% off
Buy 4-7 meters, get 20% off
Buy 8-12 meters, get 25% off
Minimum full meter cuts for the discount; can be mix and match; sales does not apply to 60 inch+ fabric or batting; and purchases do not apply to the Customer Loyalty Program. What a great opportunity to pick up some fabric for backing quilts!
Hope to see you soon!
Pinheads has expanded its spring schedule to include the following classes:
McKenna Ryan's "Making Spirits Bright" applique with Cathy Forsyth, Thursday, February 21, 1 to 4 p.m. Join me in learning how to create the beautiful piece created by McKenna Ryan. In the time allotted, we will be able to complete one of the three snowmen, but you will leave with the skills necessary to complete the picture.
Stained Glass: Thursdays, April 25 and May 2, 6 to 9 p.m. with Allison Spence. You, too, can learn how to do a stained glass quilt. Two of Allison's beautiful creations are pictured below.
Join Gail Robinson on Sunday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to learn how to make the gorgeous cork wallets that everyone is talking about.
Call the store for further details, and don't forget, we still have room in some of our classes.

Saturday, November 10, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Bring in your scissors and knives to get them sharpened and ready for Christmas sewing or carving the bird. This is a first-come, first-served cash only event. Cost is $10 per pair of scissors, or $5.00 per knife. Our sharpener will be here at 10 a.m., and will pack up his tools around 3 p.m. Call the store if you wish to have more details. See you Saturday!
Seems like many of you are excited to get going on some fall classes -- you should have received an email, but classes are listed under the classes section of our website in the event you didn't receive our email.
On Saturday, September 8, Wayne Kollinger and Linda Hurd will be in the store to give a Trunk Show. Wayne and Linda’s bios are in the class schedule, but we are excited to have them join us for the Trunk Show and the Fall Line-up of classes. I’m sure the Trunk Show will be standing room only, so make sure you register early.
Some highlights of our upcoming classes:
Allison Spence returns to us with her Free Motion Quilting and Ruler Work classes, but will be adding a Wee Sew Wednesday series. This is focused towards kids Grade 1 and up who really want to learn to sew. Wee ones are invited to bring their sewing machines to learn proper etiquette with cutting tools (yikes!!), proper techniques, all while having fun with Allison. Allison has designed a program in which the wee ones have a chance to sew one item successfully, or may be motivated to sew all the six items Allison has planned – no stress to complete all six. Check out Wee Sew Wednesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. This will be followed by Wee Sew Christmas…
Joanne Deaver joins us again to teach the Detour table runner and placemat set. This is a great way to use up small bits of fabric, as the largest piece required is 0.8 meters or 1.2 meters for the backing fabric. Some of you may have “stash” that will work.
Wendi Kerr will put you through your serger paces in November. You thought your serger was only for finishing cut edges? … I’m sure you’ll be surprised at what it can really do. Wendi will also be teaching One-Block Wonder in Occtober – check the schedule to see when you can start learning to create this little beauty.
Wayne Kollinger is known for his disappearing block technique. I’m not talking nine-patch or four-patch…I’m talking like a churn dash or maybe a bow tie. Wayne will provide advance work to make a block, and participants will come to class ready to “cut up”, and I’m not talking laughter here. Wayne also will teach us the alphabet (or four or five!).
Linda Hurd loves working with her walking foot, and she has some amazing results – no Stitch in the Ditch for this gal! Join Linda for some very creative and stunning ways to finish your quilt, yet remain within the safe zone of your walking foot.
If you haven’t been in the store lately, come in and check out our new layout. We have filled our existing shelves (yet again!) and are waiting for more! I’m sure given time, we’ll fill any new shelves too!
Don’t forget to get your card for our Customer Loyalty Program. A reminder that the program only applies to full meter cuts of regularly priced fabric. Best of all, you don’t have to carry another card – we keep them here!
We have new fabric in the store – check out our new acquisitions as well as our new Christmas fabric. We welcome any and all who wish to just come in to pet the fabric! No slobbering, please.
Hope you have a fabulous remainder of the summer everyone – fall starts September 23”ish” officially. And don’t forget to register early for the classes.

This new collection arrived yesterday and is now priced and on the shelves.
